Pizza, Films and The Israeli/Palestinian ConflicT The Middle East Peace Forum of Pittsburgh presents: “Happy Birthday Mr. Mograbi”
Saturday, May 3rd, Pizza at 7 pm, film at 7:30 pm At Adamson Wing 136A Baker Hall – CMU Campus Free – but donations are welcomed Intertwined forever, the celebrations of Israel’s anniversary always coincide with the anniversary of the Nakba (the Palestinian Catastrophe). On 1998, because of calendrical differences between the Hebrew and Western calendars, the 50th anniversary of Israel and the 50th anniversary of the Nakba coincide with director Avi Mograbi’s 42 birthday, as he is undergoing a personal crisis. To complicate things even more, Mograbi is hired by a TV producer to make a film about the celebrations surrounding Israel's 50th anniversary and by a Palestinian producer to make a film about the 50th anniversary of the Nakba and the creation of the Palestinian refugee problem. The result is a provocative and sardonic mosaic sure to offend and delight any audience. This year, when the 60th anniversary of Israel is celebrated and the 60th anniversary of Nakba is commemorated we are not closer to a solution then we were 10 years ago - and Mograbi’s film may help us to understand why.
Baker Hall is on the edge of campus facing Schenley Park For more information on the film, click here.
